You ever have a headache, but in your face, and also in your whole body? Monday was chemo numero dos, and now I’m in the middle of my five days of Granix shots to boost my white blood cells. Fortunately, Jordan is great at giving me the shots, and quite artistic with his band-aid choices and placements. Unfortunately, the main side effect is bone pain. And somehow, the main thing that kinda helps with that pain is an allergy pill. Bodies are so weird.
Most of my life experience with pain has been a result of something in my body being damaged, so it’s strange to have pain from something working overtime. I keep picturing all my bone marrows shooting out bursts of white blood cells like fireworks.
I’m whimpering a lot, but really the pain isn’t that terrible. Now that we’ve made it through one round, we know that public enemy #1 is nausea and all the other side effects are manageable bummers. This time I have extra pills and CBD oil and hopefully that keeps the nausea from setting up camp.
Taste buds kinda came back for a bit, but are on their way out again. Somewhere in there I had ginger ale and it tasted exactly like Sprite. It was bewildering. In cracker news: saltines are consistently fine, wheat thins are sometimes great and sometimes terrible, TJ everything but the bagel crackers are legit, Cheez-its (toasty and white cheddar) are sadly not working. Water tastes bad, but I have solutions for that.
Now I’m going to keep wearing my soft pjs and roll up in a soft blanket with my soft cat and my softest pillow and wish softness to all of you in these trying times.
