Sixth and last TCHP chemo was two weeks ago, and while it feels great to be “done” with this chemo, I’m still fully dealing with the cumulative effects of it all…constant tinnitus in the ears, numb toes from neuropathy, tons of hot flashes from chemopause day and night, fatigue, anemia, neutropenia, hair still coming out, fun fun fun.
But the good news! My latest MRI showed a significant decrease in my main tumor’s size, and both my problem spots responded way less to the contrast dye, which chatGPT says are all great signs that the chemo made a big difference. We won’t know if the cancer’s all gone or not until after surgery, which – *celebratory mouth trumpet noises* – my surgeon said can be a lumpectomy. I know Angelina Jolie made it seem like preventative double mastectomy is the move, but I don’t have any genetic markers or family history and I want the less invasive surgery with the easier recovery that leaves me with most of my original parts – assuming all goes well, of course. Surgery isn’t scheduled yet, but looking like mid-late March.
Other good news! Jordan and I are grabbing a quick trip to California next week so that I can eat all the foods I’ve been dreaming about, see Jacky’s new house, and visit some family and friends. I’m still pretty weak and easily exhausted, so we’re keeping any plans super low-key and open. And food-based. Everything is food-based right now. First meal after landing: Chicken Dijon house salad. Last meal before we leave: breakfast burritos from Corner Cottage. And you bet your booty I’ve got a whole list of foods for the rest of the time. Food food food. I’m gonna go eat something.
