Note from one of the big sisters

The thing about Heather is that she doesn’t want to ask for help, and she particularly does not want to ask for help after so, so many people helped her when Jonas died. She wants me to reiterate that she doesn’t need anything, that she has a great support network, that she doesn’t want to burden or bother anyone, blah blah blah.

Since she is so good at so many things, I think we can all forgive her for being bad at this. I was the one who pushed her on this, because I know people will want to help in whatever way they can, and it’s nice to be given something to do when faced with this kind of stuff.

So, if and only if you are really so inclined, here are some non-material things that are nice and would be appreciated: messages, jokes, memes, and patience if her legendarily bad response response times are even worse than usual. (For example, I recently showed her the Eric Adams video on how to search your house for contraband–these are the types of bangers we all need.)

In terms of ACTUAL things:

As we wait to find out the course of treatment, there’s going to be a lot of appointments from start to (hopefully) bell-ringing finish. She’s added some practical things and some silly things onto an Amazon wish list that will help with comfort, mood, distraction, etc. She’s pretty well stocked up on puzzles, but of late has been doing LEGO sets with the boys and Jordan. Amazon list is likely to update as we learn more about useful items for the different treatment stages: helpful items wishlist

If you would like to send food via gift card, some local food places she likes are Paia Fish Market, Nico’s, Paniolo’s, Lanikai Juice, Zippy’s. Also do a lot of grocery shopping at Costco, Safeway, and Whole Foods. And let’s not forget the gold standard of spam musubis, found at 7-11 all across the island.

Finally, most importantly, just need to say thanks to all of you who are in her corner. It truly means the most to know you are thinking of her, praying for her, wishing her well from across the miles. That’s the main thing that will keep her going through all this.

Love,

Jenni
